MOSCOW, Russia – The Mesivta Boy’s Yeshiva High School in Moscow inaugurated a new library, dedicated to the memory of Rebbetzin Sofa Kogan, the wife of Rabbi Yitzchak Kogan, who heads the Moscow synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya.
The event was opened by Rabbi Reuven Kuravsky, who reminded the audience about the time when, four years ago, the old building of the Mesivta school burned down, together with its rich library. “From that time until now, we did not have an actual room dedicated as a library; there was only a small collection of books that were acquired little by little. When Rebbetzin Kogan passed away, we thought about what we wanted to do to perpetuate her memory and we decided to dedicate this library.”
The funds used to create this library were contributed by more than one hundred donors. The school also expects to create an audio and video library. The initial contribution towards achieving this has already been made by Rabbi Kogan, who donated an entire DVD collection. In addition to the library in the school building itself, satellites of the library will operate in the school’s dormitories, to provide more regular access to students.
Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar remarked that Rebbetzin Kogan successfully raised many children, extending beyond her own immediate family to also include Rabbi Kogan’s students. "I am confident that the Rebbetzin is thinking about and praying for each one of you. She surely wishes that all of you and your children will grow to be a pride to the Jewish people," concluded Rabbi Lazar.
Rabbi Kogan and Rabbi Lazar then officially opened the library by uncovering the books that are housed there.
