MOSCOW, Russia – On November 17, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar returned from the annual International Convention of Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries in New York. Rabbi Lazar attended the convention together with a large delegation from Russia. Included in the delegation was the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia Mr. Alexander Boroda, FJC Russia’s head of public relations Rabbi Boruch Gorin, Chief Rabbi of S. Petersburg Menachem Mendel Pewzner, Chief Rabbi of Krasnodar Shneur Segal, Chief Rabbi of Saratov Yakov Kubitschek, and emissaries serving in other major cities of Russia.
This year’s convention was attended by over 4,000 people representing every continent and nearly every country in the world. A most moving part of the convention was the completion of a Torah scroll, written in memory of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg. The Holtzbergs, the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s emissaries to Mumbai, India, were murdered last year by terrorists in their Chabad House, together with four other people.
