Yerevan's Synagogue Welcomes Jewish Scientists from Throughout the World

Friday, April 9 2004

YEREVAN, Armenia - On the first Passover Seder, the Jewish community of Yerevan welcomed Jewish scientists and former citizens of Armenia, who gathered in Yerevan for a congress. Armenian Jews from Israel, England, the USA, Canada and the Philippines found they were able to share discussion with local Jews at the table, while reading chapters from Haggadah. Despite their different languages, the participants found it easy to communicate with one another.

The guests found the matzah to be unusually tasty. "Of course we hold Seders in our own communities but here, everything is so tasty and people are so nice," said history Professor Livshitz. "And your children are just marvelous!" he added in excitement following a concert put on by the children.

Warm atmosphere and good wine united the guests and the hosts in one Jewish family. The participants finally said goodbye to each other sometime after midnight.

Guests and local community members shared interesting stories about ways of holding Seders in different Jewish communities.
