Wednesday, November 3 2004

LUGANSK, Ukraine – Jewish schoolchildren of Lugansk continue to bring glory to their school, with a victory at a recent chess tournament, which involved children from all of the schools in the city.

Yaroslav Dobchis, a sixth-grader at the 'Beit Menachem' Day School, took the prize for first place in his age group. The boy’s parents and the entire Jewish school gave him an enthusiastic welcome upon returning from the tournament as a winner.

While the boy received a certificate from the tournament's organizers, the school staff also decided to present him with another small gift as an award from the school. "This is how we can show our children that the need not only to have fun while taking part in various contests, but that they can also think logically," stated Zinaida Gluschak, the Head of the teaching staff at the Jewish school. "Our children are proving that they are the smartest, showing themselves to be a worthy generation within the Jewish people".
