MOSCOW, Russia - Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the authorities' resolve to continue fighting against anti-Semitism.

"The authorities, the government and the president will always keep track of the fight against anti-Semitism and the manifestations of other extreme trends - extremism and xenophobia -- including the manifestation of chauvinism and anti-Russian sentiments," Putin said at a meeting with Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar on Thursday.

The Russian state system was developing in the condition of multi-confessionalism from the beginning. "It's not just the oldest Russian tradition -- inter-confessional and inter-ethnic peace," he noted.

Russia is a symbiosis of various nationalities, ethnic groups, and religions. This is what makes it strong, the president said.

He called for joining efforts of the state and religious representatives in combating anti-Semitism, xenophobia and extremism.

"We will be able to work effectively, if we work together in the conditions of building confidence in each other, and coordinating everything we do," Putin stated.
