Kosher Restaurant Undergoes Second Attack in Weeks

Tuesday, October 11 2005

S.PETERSBURG, Russia – The 'Shalom' Kosher Restaurant of S. Petersburg has once again suffered an attack by vandals. The incident occurred last Friday night, just several weeks after being targeted in a separate anti-Semitic pogrom.

The windows and advertising banners, which have just finished being repaired following the previous incident, were once again smashed. In this most recent attack, the security guard was inside the restaurant and was not able to react in time to prevent the assault from happening. Later on, the officer discovered stones and pieces of broken bottles on the site.

The restaurant's administration reported the incident to officials at the local police department and appealed to them to pursue and find the criminals responsible for this violation. No results in this investigation have yet been revealed. The Jewish community of S. Petersburg plans to go forward with a request to local law enforcement agencies to clarify what measures are being taken with respect to this criminal investigation.
