NOVOROSSIYSK, Russia – Lessons on the Holocaust are being given to students of local high schools, lyceums, and colleges in Novorossiysk thanks to the efforts of the Jewish community in this southern city, a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
The lectures are given by Irina Kalashnikova, a pedagogical specialist and active member of the local Jewish community. "The 'Holocaust' Foundation provided us assistance to this initiative with respect to the purchase of the necessary textbooks, for which we are very grateful to the funds heads, Alla Gerber and Igor Altman" expressed Irina Kalashnikova.
In 2005, a total of 37 lessons were given on the theme "The Holocaust of European Jewry". As part of this undertaking, more than 670 schoolchildren and students took part in the classes, seminars and debates carried out through this project.
The organizers and participants of this project plan to wide its scope of activity in 2006, specifically with respect to the number of educational institutions reached and the realization of thematic cycles for different age groups of Novorossiysk residents.
