Jewish Community Aids Orphanage

Monday, May 29 2006

LIPETSK, Russia – Fosterlings from a group run by the Orphanage in the village of Dobroye, located near the border city of Lipetsk, welcomed a visit by Rabbi Shaul Adam, the Chief Rabbi of the region and a Chabad Lubavitch emissary. He was accompanied by the Head of the Sunday School run by the local Jewish community, Raisa Fraiman. The two Jewish representatives made this visit in light of the approaching 'International Children's Day', which is widely celebrated throughout Russia and highlights the ongoing needs of many of this country's children.

On this occasion, there were seven orphans, aged 18 months to six years old, who received a shipment of toys and sweets, presented by the guests on behalf of the Jewish community of Lipetsk. Two of these orphans are already getting ready to attend their first year of school this upcoming September. Rabbi Adam presented each of these youngsters with a new set of pencils, crayons and everything else they will need for their studies.

In their hospitality and as a gesture of thanks, the kids thanked their guests by putting on an entertaining concert. "This meeting was very warm and heartened. The Jewish community will continue to assist these orphans and do its best to accommodate any of their requests," expressed Rabbi Shaul Adam.

This is one of thousands of examples as to how Jewish communities across the country, united by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, are sharing joy and providing assistance to orphans and children's homes.
