Thousands of emissaries – representatives of this mass movement within Judaism – have arrived in New York to report on the work they have done over the past year. Registration of the congress’ participants will take place in the morning, after which participants then split into separate groups and begin discussions on various topical issues. One of the main themes to be addressed during this particular congress will be the global financial crisis. This year's event is involving an estimated 4,000 people.
The Annual Congress of Chabad Lubavitch Emissaries culminates in a celebration of these individuals in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of righteous memory.
In 2005, Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar had the privilege of giving the keynote speech at this event on behalf of all participating emissaries. This year, Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar’s visit to New York will last until November 24.
The Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and Baltic Countries wishes all participants the utmost success in their deliberations and dealings during this important Congress, so that their respective Jewish communities – whether they be in lay in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Baltics, Siberia or the Russian Far East – will benefit from the knowledge and renewed energy gained during these next few days in New York.
