Mitzvah Tank Covers Moscow

Thursday, February 12 2009

MOSCOW, Russia – In following with a tradition established years ago by the Moscow Jewish Community Center, located in the Marina Roscha neighborhood, another campaign of the so-called ‘Mitzvah Tank’ has gotten underway. In order to provide members of the public with the opportunity to become more familiar with the peculiarities of this particular project, its organizers have launched a dedicated website at jtank.ru.

As stated on the home page of the project’s website, “It is no secret that the tank is an offensive war machine. That is why the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson [of righteous memory] proposed that this name be given to this very mobile Synagogue initiative to be specifically named ‘Mitzvah Tanks”.

On board the Mitzvah Tank is an entire arsenal of a Synagogue and its operational team will gladly help anyone interested with respect to the matters of Jewish tradition. The themes covered include honoring the traditions of Talis and Tefillin, saying the holy words of prayer, acquiring necessary Jewish literature and Judaica items.

The team members are also on hand to provide advice with respect to a rich and wide array of issues concerning Jewish lifestyles. These cover such traditions as circumcision, Bar and Bat Mitzva (including adult ceremonies), options for pursuing a Jewish education in Moscow, Chuppa (the wedding ceremony), and arranging a traditional Jewish burial service.

Participants will also have the opportunity to receive advice with respect to their personal matters, engage in a prayer for their health and success, write a letter requesting the Rebbe’s blessing. The Mitzvah Tank is providing Jewish residents and visitors to Moscow the distinct possibility of becoming more closely acquainted with Jewish life and be touched by the Jewish wisdom contained in the Talmud and the teachings of Chassidism.
