Vandalism at Petrozavodsk Jewish Cemetery

Thursday, August 19 2004

PETROZAVODSK, Russia - Vandals defaced the arc at the Petrozavodsk Jewish cemetery with racial slurs, fascist slogans, and a Magen David star crossed out with a swastika. The previous anti-Semitic incident at the Petrozavodsk Jewish cemetery occurred on August 10th. The same person, judging by the style and handwriting, presumably carried out the two acts.

The Jewish community says that they have received support from local law enforcement officials in their efforts to combat anti-Semitism. The city's District Attorney took personal responsibility for prosecuting a previous case of vandalism at the Jewish cemetery.
