In Donetsk, Jewish Youngsters Get New Lesson from Old Hand

Monday, November 5 2007

DONETSK, Ukraine – This week in the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk, boys attending the 'Warm House for Schoolchildren' hosted a visit by a highly respected guest – Mikhail Efimovich Krichevsky, who is one of the more active elders of the Jewish community of Donetsk.

Not only is Mikhail Efimovich an interesting personality with a biography surprisingly full of dynamic events, but so too does this fascinating senior citizen possess a wide range of knowledge, covering many different spheres of interest. The youngsters were also ecstatic to learn what a great story teller he is, sitting attentively and listening to hours of exciting tales from his personal experience.

The guest also decided to help the boys carry out some of their assigned tasks so they could free up more time for good conversation and tasty kosher treats. At the end of the visit, some of the older boys thanked Mikhail Efimovich on behalf of the entire group, informing him that they see him as a source of positive energy, inspiration, and love of life.

The 'Warm House for Schoolchildren' is a boarding home and school complex that operates as one of the many Jewish educational institutions that function across the Former Soviet Union under the sponsorship of the Ohr Avner Foundation, headed by FJC President Lev Leviev.
